Celebrating Mother's Day: Honoring the Roots of Our Family

Mother's Day is a special occasion that reminds us of the incredible impact our mothers have had on our lives.

Mother's Day is a special occasion that reminds us of the incredible impact our mothers have had on our lives, and continue to do so. It is also an opportune time to reflect on the significance of our family of origin and the role our mothers play in shaping who we are.

Our family of origin, often consisting of our parents and siblings, forms the foundation of our identity. It is within this nurturing environment that we first experience love, support, and guidance. Our mothers, in particular, play a pivotal role in providing unconditional love, instilling values, and teaching life lessons that shape our character. (This is also why research shows time and time again that even if we don’t have the most stable family unit growing up, as long as we have at least one secure attachment in our life, our chances of success are already substantially higher).

On Mother's Day, it is crucial to take the time to appreciate and honor the roots from which we have grown. This means acknowledging the sacrifices, dedication, and love that our mothers have bestowed upon us throughout our lives. Reflecting on the values and traditions passed down from generation to generation can foster a sense of gratitude and connection to our family's unique history. (And we know that practising gratitude also increases the positive mindset). Embracing this diversity is an integral part of understanding and appreciating our family's journey. Mother's Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich tapestry of our heritage, whether it is through cooking traditional meals, sharing stories, or participating in cultural customs.

Acknowledging our family of origin can also be a catalyst for healing and growth. While not all familial relationships are perfect, recognizing the challenges and embracing forgiveness can contribute to our personal development. Mother's Day can serve as a reminder to mend any rifts, nurture positive connections, and foster a sense of unity within the family. After all, everything is about connection, connection, connection.

Which also, makes us reflect that as we honor our mothers on this special day, we can also consider the impact we have on future generations.

As we said on the farm, and as my mother told me, as her mother told her: "In the vast fields of life, remember that even the mightiest oaks grow from the tiniest seeds. Embrace your potential, spread your wings, and never underestimate the strength within you."

Come heal, grow and create together
