Growth - What Does it Mean?
What the hell does “Growth” mean anyway?
Growth seems to be a really popular catchphrase in and of itself nowadays.
Everywhere you go, everyone is offering growth. Grow your money. Grow your career, grow your education, grow yourself, grow your skills, grow your relationships, grow your friendships, but what exactly are they talking about, anyway? How can you quantify someone’s spiritual growth? How can you measure someone’s conscientious growth? Is all growth positive? What if someone wants to be a bigger jerk? Are people just born jerks? Or do they practice at it?

Everywhere you go, everyone is offering growth but what exactly are they talking about, anyway?
The problem with the term growth...
... is that most of these concepts are intangible, perhaps with the exception of money or making more money but what about the other areas of our life? And does having more money actually make us happier? (Research says beyond a certain point – NO!!!! and yet we are still so obsessed with growing our money, watch for my post on "Fantasy Bonding" next week).
When I talk to my clients about “growth”, I often discuss with them what tangible, real-life growth would look like. It is also important to remember that even the mightiest oak started off as a tiny acorn, and that Rome was not built in a day. Many people who want to start creating healthier lifestyles, “bite off more than they can chew”, and try too many changes to their life where they inevitably end up failing. Everyone must take their time with growth, grow and balance with nature around them, and preferably fertilizing that growth with relationships and connection. If your New Year’s resolution was to start going to the gym 3 days a week, you likely failed after the first month. However, those of us that found friends to go with us to the gym, or signed up for group activities such as playing hockey or other team-related activities, likely found more success. Why is that? Nature never practices monoculture, that is nature builds rich environments filled with diverse life that allows harmony, balance, and stability. If you want effective change in your life, do not just say you want to go to the gym 3 days a week. Look at your life, evaluate its harmony, balance, and stability and make overall adjustments to those areas. Once that is done, having goals such as going to the gym 3 days a week are only the beginning. Growth becomes inevitable and unstoppable!
Beware monoculture growth!!!

Even on the farm when they would plant fields, they often executed a farming practice known as crop rotation. This is where certain crops are planted at different intervals over many harvesting seasons. Beware monoculture growth!!!
